I personally believe we all have a fair shot at winning the main prize ~
I DO NOT believe they'd have any hesitation in signing & marketing any act whom they believe might have the most potential to increase the company profits over said period of the recording contract they are offering ~ why would they ?

What logical explanation could the vested interests have in NOT spending some of this evaluation of artistic talent & potential future revenue time ~ by NOT spending some of this time evaluating potential future revenue of artistic talent available to them ?

Yes ~ I agree this is a tough business ~ but anyone thinking otherwise is simply ignoring the business side of the music business equation ~ & somehow I SERIOUSLY DOUBT the business side of this music business equation would somehow be oblivious to the bottom line !
